The Wonderful World of Third Grade

1-9-12 to 1-12-12

Reminder – No School on Friday or Monday – Enjoy your four day weekend1

Math will focus on multiplication and techniques for solving problems.  Timed tests will be on Thursday this week.  Remember that 30 minutes of IXL is due by Friday.

In Social Studies we will begin to look at our dreams and compare them with Martin Luther King Jr.  Students will also examine how our dreams fit into our calling as a Catholics, relating dreams to the Social Justices and the Acts of Mercy.

In Science we are reading fiction books that relate to animal ecosystems, environment and habitats.  Students will also begin to look at how animals adapt for survival.

In Language Arts students will be working in their poetry journals.  Students are also finishing Unit #3 in phonics this week.  Students will be working in the ITBS books as we begin to prepare for the upcoming IOWA tests.

In Reading this week we will read the story Dream Wolf.   We will focus on cause and effect.

The spelling test for Unit #15 will be on Tuesday.  We will then begin Unit #16 on Wednesday.  The test for Unit #16 will be Friday the 20th.  Again this will allow us to fit a unit in during these short weeks.  All words are posted on www.spellingcity.com.

We will have our Simple Solutions quiz for lessons #49-#52 on Wednesday.  Our lessons for this week are #52 on Monday, #53 on Tuesday and #54 on Thursday.  This way we will finish this cycle next week and resume with our Friday test on 1/20.

The students are doing an excellent job of reading.  Keep up the great work; many students are almost at their January goal!  We also have several students on the verge of earning a word number star and a reading certification!

Have a fantastic week!
