 Extra November Information

For November students will be required to take and pass one AR test
on a chapter book they read on their own.
Please encourage your child to use their reading journal time to accomplish this goal.
It is part of their reading grade.

Family turkey projects are due on Monday, November 7th.

I will be sending home a November/December book order, regardless of book fair.
If you would like to use this for Christmas gifts, just send in an email and I will hide the books for you until you can pick them up.
The Wonderful World of Third Grade

10-31 to 11-4

I am beginning to put together our auction project.  On Wednesday the students will be photographed spelling out the letters of SPPS.  Please make sure your student is in their best uniform that day.  I think the mixture of school plaid and blue will look really nice, so if you have the plaid, I would appreciate if the girls wear it on Wednesday.  Thank you for your help.

This week in religion we will learn about All Saints and All Souls Day.  Students will also be praying the first three decades of the Joyful Mysteries.  Students are also completing a stained glass picture of Mary with a seventh grade partner.

In Math we will be doing a project with symmetry.  Students will be taking our timed multiplication quiz this Thursday.  Students have a note in their agenda telling them what multiplication table to focus on.  We will also be finishing Chapter 3 in our math books. Thirty minutes of ixl math is due by Friday.

This week in reading we will be reading a story from our reading book that complements an article from National Geographic and also our current chapter in science.   Students will focus on cause and effect.

In Language Arts we will be finishing two projects that we have been working on.  Students will also be focused on figurative language.

In Science students will continue to learn about different types of plants, what they need to survive and about the process of photosynthesis.  In addition to looking at what plants need, students will begin to see how the environment affects plant and animal life.

Spelling this week is Unit #9. All the words are posted on www.spellingcity.com. The Spelling Test will be on Friday.

In Social Studies students begin to focus on our local theme by contrasting and comparing what Doylestown and our school may have been like 150 years ago.  As you well know, we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of our school this year.  The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade have been asked to create a Christmas program that highlights what our school may have been like 150 years ago.  For the Third Grade portion of the play we will demonstrate how students learned by rote memorization and repetition.  Students will be memorizing sections of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”, for their part in the play.  Also, please begin to think about a costume for a student from that era for your child.  Thanks.

Simple Solutions this week will be lessons #33 through #36.

May you have a blessed week!
