The Wonderful World of Third Grade – Final Edition!

5-29 through 6-1

It is with a heavy heart I write my last newsletter of the year.
I have cherished each and every day that I have spent with your children,
And appreciate the trust and faith that you placed in our school and in me.

The children have grown both socially and academically this year.
I am so proud of their achievement and progress.

My time a Sts. Peter and Paul school has been a truly amazing period in my life.
I thank you all for letting me be a part of your family over the past six years.
Although my life is transitioning into a new phase,
I will always hold close the time I have spent here in the Third Grade and the
six classes of children I have been honored to teach.

You will be missed,
 God Bless…

Kimberly Bryant

Our week, short but sweet:

Tuesday – Field Day – Please dress appropriately for our day.  Tennis shoes only, not tank tops, and shorts must be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee.

Wednesday – We will have our awards ceremony for the school at 9:30.  Students in Third Grade will be given awards in class on Thursday afternoon from me.

Friday – Mass & 10:00 dismissal.

I will be passing out report cards and an end of the year gift on Friday.  Please make sure that your child is in attendance, as I want to spend my last few days enjoying all my students to the fullest.

In reading we will be focused on National Geographic Explorer.  We will be reading and completing the smart board lessons that compliment the articles.  Please keep the reading habit continuing throughout the summer.  Students need to continue to read to help avoid the dreaded “summer slide”!  Twenty minutes a day is ideal.  I will send home a few incentives from Scholastic and Book It to help motivate.  Also please do not forget about the summer reading program at the Doylestown Library.

In math we will be reviewing multiplication and division with some learning games.  I will also be introducing a new game from Scholastic at www.kakooma.com.
Students will be bringing home a flier.  Also please remember that IXL is available for all the students through the summer.

Students will review Pentecost and the Rosary in Religion.

In Science we will be completing our Simple Machines project on Wednesday and presenting them to the class on Thursday.

In Social Studies we will have our final payday and shopping of the year.  Students will wrap up their economics unit by Thursday.

In Language Arts we are finishing Tuck Everlasting.  Students will watch the movie and compare and contrast the book to the movie version.

Have a Blessed week and a wonderful summer!

The Wonderful World of Third Grade

5-21 through 5-25

REMEMBER
We will be celebrating a First Communion Mass on Monday.
Students must be dressed for Mass.
NO SHORTS and NO DRESS DOWN PASSES ALLOWED!

We will however have a missions dress down day on Friday  -- Students can dress down for a $1 missions donation.

A HUGE and special thank you to the parents who
Spent Friday afternoon working at our Wacky Olympics.
It was a wonderful, energetic and fun learning experience.
Again, thank you for your hard work and effort in helping to make it a great day for our students!! We couldn’t have done it without you!

•    We are entering our last full week of school.  Wow, it is hard to believe that our year is coming to an end.  What a wonderful year it has been, learning, faith, fun and friendship, who could ask for more?  I understand that we are all very busy this time of year so I am working very hard this week to send home little to no homework.

•     I will be doing Simple Solutions Science and Grammar with the students during class, those books will not be coming home again.  I will be trying to get through the math also, however you may see that book come home with a little work left to finish.

•    In Math we will be finishing chapter 14.  The quiz will be on Friday.  Students will also have two more chances to pass the 6-minute multiplication timed-test. Memorizing these facts is imperative to their future success in math.  We have been working on this for so long, I am hoping this will be the week that it all comes to fruition.  Please spend a little time on those flash cards!   IXL this week is not required but will be counted as extra credit in math if your child wishes to complete thirty to sixty minutes.

•    Reading Journal will be required as my wish is that nightly reading is a habit that has been instilled in my students, rather than a chore!  In reading we will be reading about the Titanic.  Students will focus on sequence of events and summarizing.

•    In Language Arts we will be working with figurative language.  Students will be focusing on idioms this week.

•     In Science we will be working with inclined planes, friction and simple machines.  Students will be working in groups to create marble mazes that contain the 5 simple machines we have been working with.

•    In Social Studies we will be reviewing map skills and students will also be introduced to State of Ohio facts with a coloring book from the state.

Have a Fantastic Week!

The Wonderful World of Third Grade

5-7 through 5-11

Remember that there will be no school for students on Friday!  Enjoy!

If your child has a summer birthday I will send an email letting you know what day
we have marked off for them to celebrate!

Simple Solutions this week are lessons 101 through 104!  We will not take the
corresponding tests this week.

Spelling this week is Unit #30 and the words are posted on Spelling City.  This is a
review unit and the test will be on Thursday.

Students have selected their books for the biography/autobiography reports.  The
reports will be done in the form of a poster.  Students who have finished their
books have been given the posters.  As soon as the others arrive in the mail you
child will bring home their copy.  Students will only be given one poster, please
help your child hang on to it!  Final reports will be due on Friday May 17th.

In Math this week we will be working with lines, angles and shapes.

In Science we will be reviewing Life Cycles.  Our caterpillars went into the
chrysalis stage this week.  We hope to have six Painted Lady Butterflies in about 12
days.  We will also be watching a Praying Mantis pod hatch.

In Language Arts students will be applying all of their knowledge of language and
words to create cards and poems.

In Reading students will enjoy a story exploring if animals think or not.  It is an
interesting selection that really causes a debate among the students.  This
correlates well with our movie Chimpanzee.

Our field trip to the Magical Theater is on Thursday.

Students will be working with the fourth grade to create posters for their country
in the Olympics unit.  Thank you to our parent volunteers, more information will
follow.  If you would like to help there is still time to let us know!

Have a wonderful week!
